Title: Application of Artificial Intelligence and Robotics in Precision Agriculture

Time: 10: 00am, Thursday, January 9, 2020

Venue: Administration Building, Room 601

Organizer: School of Artificial Intelligence

Abstract: Agricultural Automation, Robotization and Artificial Intelligence will greatly reduce labor costs, increase the utilization of fertilizers and other pesticides, reduce environmental damage and ensure food safety, which will bring about a revolutionary change. Through the Artificial Intelligence perception system based on deep neural networks, agricultural robots can complete a series of tasks such as autonomous plowing, sowing, precise fertilization and spraying pesticides, weeding, health and pest monitoring, harvest prediction, harvesting and so on. This talk focuses on the application of Artificial Intelligence methods in agricultural robots for vegetable monitoring, leaf segmentation, real-time segmentation of crops and weeds, and robotic SLAM technology applied in agricultural robots positioning and scene modeling. It mainly includes the following three contents: Simultaneous Localization and Mapping (SLAM) System of agricultural robot in fruit trees based on 3D laser radar, the intelligent sensing system of precision spraying vegetable robot, and the intelligent sensing system and actuator control of pesticide-free weeding robot.

Biography: Sudao Bilige received his Bachelors’ degree from the Department of Mechanical and Electronic Engineering of Zhejiang University in 2010, a double Master’s degree in Automation from Warsaw University of Technology and Genoa University in 2012, supported by the full scholarship of the European Master on Advanced Robotics (EMARO). He received a Ph.D. degree from the University of Technology Sydney in 2017. He is currently a postdoctoral fellow at the Australian Outdoor Robot Research Center (ACFR) of the University of Sydney, focusing on the development of a variety of commercial agricultural robots, and some of his scientific and technological achievements have been adopted by Agerris. His research interests include Robotics, Deep Learning, Artificial Intelligence, Robot Vision, Positioning, Mapping and Navigation. He has published 7 papers in ICRA and IROS, which are two of the best International Conferences on robotics.
