On May 26th, the founding ceremony of the School of Artificial Intelligence (SAI) of Jilin University and the Artificial Intelligence Expert Forum was held in Changchun. The SAI, Research Institute of Artificial Intelligence, Institute of Intelligent Manufacturing, Intelligent Medical Research Center were unveiled. Jilin province attaches great importance to the development of AI. The reporter learned that at the beginning of this year, Jilin province formulated the “Opinions on Implementing the Development Plan of a New Generation of AI” and “Three-year Plan of Action for Promoting the Development of AI in Jilin Province (2018-2020)”, planning to build a new generation of AI technology innovation system to promote the deep integration of AI and development of the economy and support the overall revitalization of the Old Industrial Base of Jilin Province by developing AI industry, promoting the demonstration role of AI, building AI industry and application demonstration base (zone), and raising a new model and new economy.
Li Yuanyuan, president of Jilin University, pointed out that with the rapid development of AI technology and its profound impact on human society, AI has become a new focus of international competition and a new engine of economic development. A new generation of AI has entered a new developmental era. The establishment of SAI is one of the most important measures for Jilin University to seize the opportunity of AI development, to meet the strategic needs of the country, to promote industrial transformation and upgrading, and to transform the economic development of Jilin Province. Also, it’s a positive action for Jilin University to make Party and People satisfied with higher education.
Zhu Tianshu, Vice Governor of Jilin Province, pointed out that efforts should be made to build an AI collaborative innovation ecosystem with international core competitiveness. Jilin Province should promote the deep integration of the Internet, Big Data, AI and the Real Economy, and strive to build a modern economic system with the coordinated development of the Real Economy, Scientific and Technological Innovation, Modern Finance and Human Resources. It is necessary to closely follow up the development needs of AI industry, and continue to tailor-made service policies for high-end AI talents at the right moment, to make the best use of talents.
On the ceremony, Sun Youhong, Vice President of Jilin University, and Liu Wei, Executive Deputy Secretary of Political and Legal Commission of Jilin Provincial Committee of CPC, signed the “Cooperation Agreement between Political and Legal Commission of Jilin Provincial Committee of CPC and Jilin University”. After the ceremony, an AI Expert Forum was held. Experts shared their understanding of AI with a discussion on the prospects of AI discipline.
