From August 10 to 16, the International Joint Conference on Artificial Intelligence (IJCAI) was held in Macau Special Administrative Region. As one of the most important academic conferences in the field of AI, IJCAI attracts experts, scholars and students from universities, research institutes and enterprises all over the world, which is a great opportunity for academic exchanges. To help young scholars and excellent students broaden their horizons, a team of young teachers and graduate students of the School of Artificial Intelligence (SAI) participated in the conference.

During the conference, Li Yu, a PhD candidate, was invited to give a presentation for his paper “Learning Network Embedding with Community Structural Information” which was accepted at the conference. With fluent and clear expressions, Li Yu shared with the participants the ideas of the paper “Combining the high-order approximation of nodes in the network with the community structure information, a NECS method is proposed to learn the embedded representation (low dimensional vector representation) of nodes in the network”. In the exhibition hall, Li Yu’s poster attracted many domestic and foreign enterprises. The engineers of Tencent Research Institute had a deep discussion about the algorithm with Li Yu.

In addition, as the pilot talent introduction system of tenure track at Jilin University, SAI set up a recruitment corner in the venue and communicated with the interested scholars by handing out brochures and on-site communication.

In particular, Mr Zhang Chengqi (Vice President of Sydney University of Science and Technology/Chair of Australian Artificial Intelligence Council/Fellow of Australian Computer Society), a professor of strategic cooperation in SAI, will be the Chair of the IJCAI (2024). He is the third Chinese to enter the IJCAI Committee and the first Chinese Chair of IJCAI.

From now on, SAI will continue to adhere to the international strategy, follow the development trend of the discipline, and march forward with a more modest attitude, a more optimistic way, and a more vigorous spirit.
